Life Left to Go

Safetysuit's debut album is well written and has good melodies. The rock band started out in Tulsa, Oklahoma with the name "Crew." They changed their name to what it is presently and moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where they are now based.

Safetysuit has a smooth, clean sound to their songs. The sound shows the talent they have playing their instruments. Douglas "Doc" Brown has a strong and mature voice that really brings out the emotion and meaning of the lyrics. With Dave "Janeane" Garofalo's guitar, Jeremy "Jack" Henshaw's bass, and Tate "Ritchie" Cunningham's drums, the band combines the sound into a silky radio resonance. Tracks 1 to 12 are all good songs. "Stay" is a hit ballad, which has already found a spot on the VH1 Top 20 list. "Something I Said" has the passion in the words and the music brings out the emotions in Douglas's voice. "Gone Away," "Anywhere But Here," and "Life Left to Go" sound fresh from beginning to end.

Some of the beginnings of the songs were a little too long and I just wanted it to get to the tune. "Anne" and "Apology" I wanted to rip out the beginning verses. First verse in "Anne" only brings me out of the song. In "Apology" the singer hits the pitch perfectly for the "Whoa oh" but the words jarred me. "What If" is the good beginning I think the band should have continued to follow with these two songs.

Overall, it is a band to check out. Safetysuit know how to play their instruments and it shows through this album. Sample them before the buy, the band can sound almost too untainted and seem to play it safe through a lot of songs but for a debut they are excellent.
