Erin McCarley - Love, Save The Empty
- Erin McCarley grew up in a suburb of Dallas, Texas called Garland. Her parents did a good job raising her and her sister in a happy home. Her days were filled with dance and choir rehearsal. But her ideal childhood led her to unrealistic views of the world and she had to deal with a wake-up later in life. What came from the life wake-up call is Erin McCarley’s debut album, Love, Save the Empty.
Erin’s lyrics are honest and the music is a nice companion of electronics, strings, guitars, drums, and piano. My favorite song by far is “Pony (It’s Okay).” It has a fun beat, deep lyrics, and Erin’s sultry voice. On the album there is even an acoustic bonus track, which shows how even without all the electronics Erin is still able to keep her sound. “Blue Suitcase” has a Fiona Apple feel to the melody. It is playful with the rhythm. “It’s Not That Easy” has the line “I don’t trust me with loving you” from the song that just seems it has a way with getting stuck. The sturdy lyrics show the honesty one should have in the start of a relationship. Like Erin’s songs she is upfront with her composition. She has great ballets on this album without sounding cliché. “Pitter-Pat,” “Gotta Figure This Out” and “Lovesick Mistake” are complex, slow songs of just her deep, sultry voice and very little instrument.
“Sleepwalking” is a song that plays with electronics and speed. In the beginning I am reminded of Poe. A lot of Erin’s songs have fun beats like “Bobble Head” which moves in and out of the rhythms with ease. And the title track, “Love, Save the Empty” has a smooth melody.
The air of the album is a pleasant companion of pop, blues, jazz, and rock with powerful emotions that can tug at the heartstrings. Erin McCarley has polish songs throughout the whole album with themes of love, loss and life. She has already had her songs appear in T.V. shows and films because of the effortlessness she has flowing out of her songs. It is an album with a great energy. Erin McCarley is a woman with talent. She is worth a listen.
