107-year-old man killed by Arkansas SWAT team

A 107-year-old Arkansas man was killed in a shootout with SWAT police on Saturday evening.

Police were called out to a home in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, responding to reports of a domestic disturbance.

"When they arrived, they were able to determine that an aggravated assault had occurred against two people at the residence," Pine Bluff police spokesman, Lt. David E. Price said, reports CNN.

The suspect, 107-year-old Monroe Isadore, barricaded himself in his bedroom after the police arrived and the two victims were escorted from the home. Local news station KATV reports that, when the officers approached the bedroom door, Isadore fired at them.

No officers were injured by the gunfire.

The local SWAT team was then called out to the home and attempts were made to negotiate with the elderly suspect. During negotiations, they managed to slip a camera under the door, confirming that he was armed with a handgun.

Pine Bluff’s THV 11 reports that, when negotiations with Isadore proved unsuccessful, the SWAT team released gas into the bedroom. They hoped this would cause the man to surrender peacefully.

However, Isadore responded by firing more rounds at the SWAT team. When officers broke down his bedroom door, Isadore fired yet again.

Officers then returned fire, killing the 107-year-old.

No further details were provided by Pine Bluff police as their investigation is still ongoing.
