Joe Strummer, gravel-voiced lead singer for the Clash, labeled "the only
band that matters" by music critics during England's 1977 punk-rock
revolution, comes to life as never before in Joe Strummer: The Future Is
Unwritten, Julien Temple's razor-sharp documentary. Originally debuted
at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, The Future Is Unwritten incisively
traces Strummer's larger-than-life musical career-from his early days
with London pub-rockers the 101'ers, through the glory years of the
Clash, to the Mescaleros, the band Strummer fronted until his untimely
death in 2002.
Alongside white-hot unreleased live footage of the Clash, Joe Strummer:
The Future Is Unwritten also spotlights riveting recent interviews with
Bono, Johnny Depp, Martin Scorcese, members of the Red Hot Chili Peppers
and the Clash detailing the man known as the social conscious of
punk-rock.
The soundtrack CD features the documentary's spellbinding, unreleased
live performances of early Clash classics "London's Burning" and "I'm So
Bored With The USA" as well as complementary vintage material from the
film by Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley, the Ramones, Eddie Cochran and the
MC5.
