Maurice Sendak’s beloved book is faithfully adapted and brought to life on the small screen with this collector’s edition of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE COLLECTOR’S EDITION. The carefully animated production features narration and music by Carole King and Peter Schickele, and more than an hour of animated Sendak tales and a behind-the-scenes interview with the author in his studio.
This newly remastered DVD release brings Sendak’s classic stories to crisp, animated life, with an enhanced read-along function that cues the narration to the captioning. Kids will delight in the colorful “Wild Things” character stickers included in each DVD package.
The title tale is the triumphal and wildly imaginative story of a boy who misbehaves and is sent to his room for a time out. When Max is alone in his room, his imagination takes him far, to an island world of his own creation where he creates a “wild rumpus” with monsters. But after a little while he decides it’s time to head back home, “where someone loved him best of all.” Additional Sendak-penned tales brought to animated life on this DVD include “Pierre,” “One Was Johnnie,” “Alligators All Around,” “Chicken Soup with Rice,” and “In the Night Kitchen.” These stories have Caldecott Medal, Caldecott Honor and ALA Notable Book Awards. Bonus features include Spanish and French versions of “Where the Wild Things Are.” Viewers can also spend time with the renowned author in the featured short documentary, “Getting to Know Maurice Sendak.”
