Jose Gonzalez -
Jose Gonzalez's cover of The Knife's "Heartbeats"

Relying simply on his own masterfully eloquent classical guitar and a voice that marries mature assuredness with poignant delicacy, José creates an inimitable sonic world whose allure is all but irresistible. His achingly emotional melodies and thought-provoking lyrics - all sung in perfect, crystalline English - combine in a manner at once familiar (think Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Will Oldham) and exotic (shades of Brazilian Tropicalia, flamenco, even the odd vestigial trace of Pampas tango). From these disparate sources José has conjured a unique and bewitching signature that is all his own. Veneer was released in the US in September 2005 on Hidden Agenda/Parasol following it being a Gold-plus hit in his native Sweden and he was awarded a Swedish Grammy for Best Newcomer (2004). This year has seen José become a darling of UK music fans and across the European continent. Now signed to Mute Records and appearing on the new Zero 7 album as a guest vocalist, Veneer has been re-released for the masses to enjoy.
