‘The Pacific’ Brings in World War II Topics for Hanks and Spielberg
After working together on World War II epics like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg are at it again with a new miniseries, The Pacific.
The series will have ten parts and premieres Sunday at 9 pm on HBO. Producers Hanks and Spielberg will focus on the stories of Marines who fought in the Pacific and its islands during WWII.
Though the show will depict many different people, it will mainly focus on three major characters, Robert Leckie, John Basilone, and Eugene B. Sledge.
The series will deal with personal relationships as well as some tough issues dealing with fighting. The show begins just after the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the Marines will struggle with the feeling of an obligation to retaliate on all of Japan.
The Pacific is already earning a lot of buzz because of how expensive it was to film, with a budget around $200 million.
Though the miniseries incorporated the talents of many directors, writers, and actors, there are no huge names behind this project (besides producers Hanks and Spielberg).
