‘Glee’ star cast in ‘Smurfs’
“Glee” cast member Jayma Mays has been cast in the upcoming Sony feature film “The Smurfs.”
According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “[Mays] will star as the female human lead in "The Smurfs," Sony's live-action/animated hybrid being directed by Raja Gosnell. Mays is playing the pregnant wife of the already cast Neil Patrick Harris, the film's other human lead.”
Actor Hank Azaria, who voiced a bunch of characters on “The Simpsons,” will be the voice of Gargamel, the sworn nemesis of the lovable blue creatures. Other actors rumored to have already been cast include film and Broadway actor Alan Cumming, television star and stand-up comedian George Lopez and pop/rock singer/songwriter Katy Perry. Already confirmed cast members include film director/producer/actor Quentin Tarantino as Brainy Smurf and actor/comedian Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf.
The HollywoodReporter.com article concludes by stating that, “Mays, repped by Gersh and Framework, plays hopelessly-in-love guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury on ‘Glee.’ Her other credits include ‘Heroes’ and ‘Ugly Betty’ as well as ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop.’”
Her other television credits include starring in an episode of the ABC television dramedy “Pushing Daisies” as well as in an episode of the Jennifer Love Hewitt-starring CBS supernatural television series “Ghost Whisperer and in two episodes of HBO’s acclaimed television drama “Entourage.” As for her film credits, Mays starred in the 2007 comedy “Epic Movie,” the 2006 war drama “Flags of our Fathers” and the 2005 thriller “Red Eye.”
