‘Star Trek’ looks to the future

Plans for the next ‘Star Trek’ movie are underway after the newest film’s phenomenal success last spring

Even though the most recent ‘Star Trek’ film was released on DVD just about month ago, plans are already underway to make the next installment. According to ComingSoon.net the next film is set for a June 29, 2012 release date.

It is thought that the film has grabbed this date since it is the usually successful weekend right before the 4th of July.

Though ‘Star Trek’ is by far not a new series, this will be only the second film in the current series. Most of the cast including Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock are expected to return for the next movie.

The upcoming film will feature the same writers as its highly successful predecessor and will also welcome Damon Lindelof of the hit television series, ‘Lost.’

Though it is uncertain at this time as to whether director J.J. Abrams will return, reports seem favorable that he will choose to direct once more.

‘Star Trek’ has made over $250 million domestically, and we can only wait and see what new adventure the next film will bring.
