2005 Detroit Jazz Festival
The Detroit Jazz Festival Remembers New Orleans.
The 2005 Detroit jazz festival brought together all musical speech, with the irony of clear skies, and New Orleans still in their hearts. Musicians and fans all congregated to venues from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius Park.
The festival was this weekend, opened by T.S. Monk, who asked the audience for a moment of silence to remember "those folks down the coast who don't have those things right now."Monk followed the moment of silence by finishing with "Yeah, they're gonna be alright."
New Orleans was not forgotten this past weekend. "They Can't Wash New Orleans Away," was played by "Long Tall" Marcia Ball, which also stung of remembrance.
The festival ended Monday, but the destruction caused by Katrina still lingers.
