The 2008 American Music Awards Nominees Have Been Announced
Created in 1973 as direct competition to the Grammys, the American Music Awards is one of the year's three biggest music awards events (the other two are the Grammys and the Billboard Music Awards). While Grammy's are awarded by a panel of music industry insiders, AMA winners are selected by audiences and the general public.
The show is being hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, and the program airs on ABC on November 23. Diva Alicia Keys has five nominations this year, the most of any nominee. Her nominations include Artist of the Year, and two categories each for Best Artist and Best Album. The Eagles hold four nominations, as do Coldplay. Other nominees in the 20 categories include Chris Brown and Lil Wayne for Artist of the Year, Foo Fighters and Linkin Park in best Alternative Rock, and Enrique Iglesias, Juannes, and Wisin Y Yandel for best Latin Artist.
According to Wikipedia, The AMAs were originally broadcast in late January, and the event was moved to November in 2003 to give ABC some power during the November sweeps, and to avoid competing with the film awards shows that take place at that time.
You can vote for the artists you want to win at www.amavote.com from October 14 - November 7.
