2009 Golden Globe Nominations

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association made the announcements official today for the most award worthy film and television work of 2008.

The invitations for a chance to receive the coveted award at this year's 66th annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel have been sent, and as always, it includes a star-studded roster.

Receiving nominations under the category of Best Motion Picture and Best Screenplay is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the story of a man (Brad Pitt) who ages backwards. Pitt also picked up a nomination for Best Performance for his role in the movie, along with Best Director candidate David Fincher and Original Score composer Alexandre Desplat.

Frost/Nixon, a retelling of the interviews after the Watergate scandel between former president Richard Nixon and talk show host David Frost, also received recognition on multiple levels. The film picked up a Best Picture nomination and actor Frank Langella received one for Best Performance for his role as President Nixon. Already familiar to the Golden Globe, director Ron Howard and composer Hans Zimmer also received nominations.

Other nominations include Best Actress, Anne Hathaway for her role in Rachel Getting Married, Angelina Jolie in Changling, and Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road -- a film encompassing 1950's suburban life that also received nominations for Best Motion Picture, Best Director, and Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor.

Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr. both pick up nominations for Best Supporting Actor for their roles in the comedy Tropic Thunder.

On the television side, Dexter, House, and Mad Men all received a nomination for Best Drama. Popular NBC shows 30 Rock and The Office also get picked, along with HBO's Entourage - including Best Actor candidate Kevin Connolly and Best Supporting Actor Jeremy Piven.
