Fresh from six Grammy wins last week, Adele was in the middle of her acceptance speech for Album of the Year at the Brit Awards when the host interrupted and cut her short.
Taking home the biggest award of the night, the songstress was peeved that host James Cordon stepped into her acceptance speech on Tuesday. Adele had no problem sticking up a middle finger at the producers behind the show for cutting her off, which was shown live on ITV.
“I was about to thank the British public for their support and they cut me off, and I’m sorry if I offended anyone,” she said after the awards. “But the suits offended me, so thank you very much for all of your support.”
Adele also took home Best Female Artist of the Year, but lost Single of the Year to X Factor boy band One Direction.
The station later issued a statement saying, "The Brits is a live event. Unfortunately the programme was over-running and we had to move on. We would like to apologise to Adele for the interruption."
A Brits spokesman also sent an apology to the singer. "We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short. We don't want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night's biggest award. It tops off what's been an incredible year for her."
While we more conservative Americans may not condone Adele's behavior, her fiery personality is one of the things we love best. But we definitely don't want to see James Cordon imported as the next X Factor judge. Despite slighting our favorite artist, the Brit Awards and British television don't have to bow to all the silly American rules and certainly seem like a lot of fun!
