Emma Watson contributes lesbian rumors to her shorter hair

Actress Emma Watson, best known for playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series, has attributed rumors regarding her sexual orientation to her shorter hair.

Watson, 21, cut off the long locks she sported throughout the Potter series in 2010. Her shorter pixie cut was loved by some and disliked by others.

Some, however, viewed her new hairdo as a statement about her sexuality.

"I had journalists asking me if [my haircut] meant I was coming out, if I was a lesbian now," she said. "That haircut did make me realize how subjective everyone's opinion is. Some people were crazy for it and some people just thought I'd lost my s---.”

However, the actress does not regret her decision to cut her hair.

"As I've got older, and since I cut all my hair off, I've felt a bit more liberated about trying different things out," she said.

Watson also credits her current gig as spokeswoman for makeup company Lancome for showing the world that her role as Hermione is just one part she can play.

"Fashion gave me a chance to feel like I was something outside of Potter," the actress said. "I'm a multi-dimensional person and that's the freedom of fashion; that you're able to reinvent yourself through how you dress and how you cut your hair or whatever."
