'Jane By Design' Recap: 'The Wedding Gown'

Jane and Billy are at the school pep-rally where Nick is making a speech to excite the crowd about the weekend’s baseball game. After the rally, Nick tries to apologize to Billy for what happened at the party a few days earlier. Billy has a hard time accepting his apology, but Jane is determined to do whatever it takes to get them both to like each other. She tells them that she has planned for the three of them to get together that night. Reluctantly, Billy agrees to go along.

At Donovan Decker, Charlotte Whitman is visiting to try on her wedding dress that has been custom designed by Donovan. This is the first time the company has designed a wedding dress, and everyone in the company stands around to watch her try it on. India describes her as American royalty. She could make or break a company.

Charlotte isn’t too sure if she actually likes the dress that Donovan has designed for her. She turns to ask everyone around her their opinion and they all shower her with compliments telling her it looks perfect. During this meeting, Jane walks into work not knowing who Charlotte is or her importance to the company. Charlotte asks Jane to give her honest opinion on the dress and so Jane tells her that she finds it a little too fussy.

Charlotte agrees with Jane immediately and is angered by her lack of satisfaction with the design. She tells Jeremy and the others that the company has until noon the next day to design her a new dress or she will have another designer do it for her.

After a brief call with Gray to explain their client’s unhappiness with the design, Jeremy gets given the task of designing the new gown. Jeremy says Jane needs to stay with her to help design the gown through the night.

Meanwhile, it’s almost time for Jane to be meeting up with Nick and Billy for their night out. Jane doesn’t get to tell them fast enough that she will not be able to make it, and Nick and Billy end up meeting up without her. At first there is clear tension between the two, and as Nick is about to leave, Billy tells him to stay. He explains that Jane wants them to be friends for some reason so that is what they should try to do. They stay and play pool together. Their night is filled with tension between the two of them as Billy makes many remarks that Nick has gotten everything in life handed to him. But the two are forced to stand together when players from the opposing basketball team challenge them to a game of pool. They bet money on the game and when they lose, the other two boys demand to get their money back from Billy and Nick. Billy refuses and they end up getting in a fight. Billy leaves with a black eye and Nick with a cut up lip.

At Donovan Decker, India tries to approach Jeremy to see if she can help him draw up the new gown design. Jeremy quickly denies her telling her that it is not her area of expertise. During this time, Jane has been working on a dress design of her own. India finds Jane’s sketch and takes it off of her desk and brings it to Jeremy. At first it seems that India intended to tell Jeremy the truth, that the design was Jane’s. But after seeing how much Jeremy liked the design, India takes credit for it.

Once they begin putting the dress design together, Jane realizes that the design is actually the one she had been sketching. She tries to tell Jeremy that it is her design and India stole it, but she has no proof so Jeremy doubts her. Jane goes on with the night helping design the dress and she ends up having to put it on to model the proportions. When the dress is nearly complete, Jane realizes that she knows how to prove to Jeremy that the design was hers.

Jane shows Jeremy a picture of her mother in her wedding dress. The dress she is wearing is similar to the design of Jane’s sketch. This proves to Jeremy that the inspiration for the dress came from Jane’s mother’s dress and couldn’t possibly be India’s. Jeremy then breaks up with India, due to her consistent lack of honesty.

They finish designing the dress on time and when Charlotte comes back to try it on, she first asks Jane for her opinion. Jane tells her this is something she needs to just see for herself. When Charlotte sees the dress she begins to cry because she is so happy with how it has turned out. She says it is the simple and sophisticated design she always wanted.

Jeremy and the other designers try to urge Jane to tell Gray about what India tried to do, but Jane says she doesn’t want to get ahead by bringing other people down.

Jane makes it on time to watch Nick at his big baseball game, and is shocked by the cut on his lip. She immediately thinks that he and Billy got into a fight, but he sets the record straight.

Jane has once again helped Donovan Decker pull through at the last minute, while still managing to keep her love life perfect.
