Actresses Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis, from the most-nominated film, The Help, won big at the NAACP Image Awards, which were held on Feb. 17 at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA.
At almost all award shows this season, The Help and it’s stars were among the most nominated of the night and it was no different when it came to the NAACP Image Awards. Spencer and Davis, who have been on a winning streak lately, were awarded two more trophies for their roles in the film which won in the category of Outstanding Motion Picture.
Davis snagged an award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture and Spencer went home with her trophy, being praised as an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting there was a tribute for Whitney Houston, in addition to Don Cornelius’ “special moment” to honor Soul Train’s musical contributions to the black community.
Jill Scott took the mic to perform her song, “Blessed,” while Jennifer Hudson and Ne-Yo entertained the audience with a duet of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” according to The Examiner.
The Help, up for four Academy Awards this Sunday, along with its stars, have received top mention by many viewers of the film.
