The Office star Rainn Wilson was forced to issue an apology after making a joke about date rape on his Twitter page.

According to Jezebel, Wilson, who is an active Twtter user, wrote on Monday, “If I were ever date raped I would want it to be to ‘Whole Lotta Love’ by Led Zeppelin.”

The 46-year-old comedian started an uproar with his tweet, which was sent to his nearly 2.9 million followers. The Hollywood Gossip reported that Wilson later deleted the tweet.

On Tuesday, Wilson tweeted an apology, writing, “Apparently my poorly conceived date-rape tweet upset a lot of folks. Not a good topic to joke about. Sorry & won't do that again.” that tweet has been favored and re-tweeted over 50 times, plus some of the responses show that maybe his fans have forgiven him for the ill-conceived joke.

Wilson frequently tweets bizarre and irreverent jokes and has not put his activity on hold since the date rape joke. Just hours ago, he tweeted, “Why doesnt Bob Marley write some new songs already?!” Other one-liners include, “The Republican vegetarian facebook page is up to 18 followers!” and “When I climax I shout out: ‘Hail Lord Voldemort!’”

Wilson currently stars as Dwight Schrute on NBC’s The Office. Last month, it was reported that NBC might be interested in creating a spin-off following the Schrute family.
