The X Factor creator Simon Cowell has not confirmed who he is looking at specifically to fill the judge’s spots left empty when Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger left after the first season. However, he said in an interview Tuesday that he would not mind Britney Spears or Janet Jackson filling those spots.
Cowell called in to The Billy Bush Show, saying that his is still “fascinated” by Spears, according to Access Hollywood. “The fact that she’s one of the most talked about – not just pop stars – but people in the world today, means that you’ve got this star power,” he said, noting that even he is not being allowed to confirm if the show’s producers have approached her and Jackson about judging.
He added that the Femme Fatale singer is “resilient” and he believes that The X Factor would be a “cake walk for her.”
“I would be fascinated to hear what she had to say...She’s still hot, she’s still having hit records and she’s still controversial, there’s a reason for that,” Cowell said.
Celebs.Gather.com noted that when Bush asked him about Jackson, Cowell did not explain why he though she would make a good judge. He only said “yes” when he was asked about her.
Cowell also said that the new season of The X Factor would be a “new show” with “much more emphasis on the contestants this year.”
The first audition for The X Factor is on March 14 in Kansas City, MO and online auditions begin Thursday.
Speculation that Spears would be interested in joining the Fox show began last week, while rumors that Jackson was already in talks to join began on Feb. 16 when she was interviewed by Anderson Cooper.
