If you saw Stephen Colbert’s two-part interview with children’s book author Maurice Sendak, you know that Colbert wrote a children’s book, I Am A Pole (And So Can You!), to get Sendak’s approval. Sendak approved of the book and now you and your children will be able to enjoy it. On Tuesday, it was announced that the book will actually be available.
Grand Central Publishing announced that it will begin publishing the book on May 8, according to The Associated Press.
USA Today reports that, in a press release, Colbert said that it has “...been a lifelong dream of mine to write a children's book.” He added that, “I hope the minutes you and your loved ones spend reading it are as fulfilling as the minutes I spent writing it.”
In his interview on The Colbert Report with the Where The Wild Things Are author, Colbert talked about celebrity children’s books, adding that he would like to “cash-in” on the trend. Colbert gave Sendak a copy of I Am A Pole to review. Sendak said that it was “terribly boring,” but had to admit that, “the sad thing is, I like it.”
Grand Central and Colbert have worked together in the past. The publishing company also published Colbert’s first book, 2007’s I Am America (And So Can You!). It will also publish his next book, America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't, which is set for release in October.
Colbert returned to television last night after having to abruptly cancel two episodes last week to reportedly be with his ailing mother.
