On Saturday, Whitney Houston’s funeral mass was televised for everyone to access. It was held at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J. in a lengthy, but touching service.
Among those who spoke or performed were her cousin Dionne Warwick, Clive Davis, R. Kelly, and Kevin Costner. Stevie Wonder reworked Houston’s favorite song, “Ribbon in the Sky,” in her honor. Alicia Keys spoke to how Houston was always there for her as well as other young artists. She then beautifully sang “Send Me an Angel” as you can see in the video below:
Houston was laid to rest on Sunday in Westfield, N.J. Gone, but never forgotten.
Houston has remained on the charts posthumously, but Adele is still holding onto number one. Adele also has more awards to add to her ever growing collection. After receiving six Grammys this year, she won two Brit awards this week. I wonder how she is displaying them all?
Rihanna is collaborating with Chris Brown again, concerning experts in domestic violence. Whitney Houston’s life took an obvious downturn during her marriage to Bobby Brown. Though Rihanna and Chris may make good music together, hopefully she stays aware of the impact a destructive relationship can have on a talented artist.
Meanwhile, another “talented artist” seems to be our president. President Obama sang a little bit of the blues at a White House Event with BB King this week, much to the delight of the crowd there.
Some new albums:
Alternative Brooklyn based duo, Sleigh Bells, released new album Reign of Terror.
The soundtrack, Act of Valor, came out this week. This film, which stars active duty Navy SEALS, will be released on Friday. In the meantime, you can enjoy the music with country artists Keith Urban, Sugarland, Trace Adkins, and Lady Antebellum.
And finally, Fun. released album Some Nights. It includes already popular song “We Are Young,” featuring Janelle Monae. Here is the video, which is mostly a crazy, slow motion bar fight…
