Whitney Houston's clothes and jewelry up for auction

Just over a week after her death, belongings of legendary music artist Whitney Houston are going up for auction.

The items were obtained by auctioneer Darren Julien shortly after her death on Feb. 11 at age 48.

Among her possessions being up for sale are earrings and a vest she wore in her film debut The Bodyguard(1992). The earrings have been priced at $400-$600 and the vest is valued at up to $800.

"It's a celebration of her life," Julien said in response to comments that it is too soon to put Houston’s belongings up for auction.

"If you hide these things in fear that you're going to offend someone – her life is to be celebrated. These items are historic now that she passed. They become a part of history. They should be in museums."

Other items which will be auctioned at the event include the vest worn by Clark Gable in Gone With the Wind(1939) and the staff used by Charlton Heston in The Ten Commandments(1956).

"It proves a point that these items, they're an investment," Julien added. "You buy items just like a stock. Buy at the right time and sell at the right time, and they just increase in value."

Houston was buried on Sunday in Westfield, N.J. next to her father. A cause of death has not been announced, pending toxicology test results.
