Rachel Crow, the 14-year-old finalist on The X Factor, has been signed to star in a pilot for Nickelodeon and has agreed to a contract with Columbia Records.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crow will star in an untitled comedy musical pilot for Nickelodeon, which has also cast her in a recurring role on Fred: The Show. She will appear in at least five episodes that will air this spring. Her character in named Starr, a girl that wants to use her acting and singing talents to become famous. Crow told The Hollywood Reporter that “It’s been amazing,” adding that after she was eliminated from the Fox show “...I just found myself sitting home asking myself, ‘What am I going to do now?’ And I never would've thought that this is what I was going do now. So, it's pretty amazing. I'm very thankful and I feel very blessed to have all this.”
Crow also signed a contract with Columbia Records, in association with Syco, The X Factor creator Simon Cowell’s label. MTV News reports that she hopes to record her first album later this year and is excited to work with the same label that Adele and Beyonce are signed to.
The news is surprising, since there were reports during The X Factor that she was talking with Disney. “I get asked on a daily basis from all my wonderful friends, 'So, Disney, huh?' It's hard to keep a secret, but it's really cool because now I'm happy to be able to share it with everyone,” Crow told The Hollywood Reporter.
The announcement that Crow, who came in fifth place, was signed by the Sony-owned label came the same day that it was reported that fellow X Factor finalist Josh Krajcik signed with Sony and will work with Eg White, who worked with Adele on “Chasing Pavements.” Chris Rene, Astro, Marcus Canty and winner Melanie Amaro have also signed contracts with Sony.
