Antonio Banderas mobbed and robbed at airport

By Robert Kirchgassner,

Antonio Banderas encountered a mob of fans in Hungary-and lost his wallet as a result.

The actor was at the Franz Liszt International Airport in Budapest on Sunday, heading from the arrival gate to his car. Following a bombardment of a large number of female fans, he alerted police that his wallet was missing.

Police speculate that thieves were observing the actor and took advantage of the chaos to strike. It is not known how much money was in Banderas’s wallet.

His films include Philadelphia (1993), The Mask of Zorro (1998) and the Shrek series, in which he voices Puss in Boots. He is married to actress Melanie Griffith.

More recently, Banderas launched his own brand of wine at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival on in February. His wines ranged in vintage from 2007 to 2011.

Banderas is not the only actor to recently fall victim to pickpockets.

In September, John Travolta’s Mercedes was stolen 10 minutes after he arrived at a Jaguar dealership. It was found in pieces by police in January.

"It was not recovered in whole. It was chopped,” Sgt. Richard Lewis said. “We have numerous pieces recovered but not the entire car."

Travolta expressed relief that his private jet was not stolen.
