The dress worn by Natalie Portman at this year’s Academy Awards has sold for $50,000 on 1stdibs.com.
Portman, 30, wore the 1954 vintage red dress as she presented the Oscar for Best Actor to Jean Dujardin on Feb. 26 for his performance in The Artist. She also wore Harry Winston jewels and a wedding band.
The strapless, size-4 dress was a Christian Dior design with small black polka-dots. It was borrowed from couture dealer Rare Vintage. It was reportedly purchased by an unknown collector in London. The company had put the dress for sale online after the Oscars.
Portman had won the Oscar for Best Actress the previous year for her performance in Black Swan (2010). She is currently the face of Dior Cherie perfume.
''Natalie's dress is amazing,” said Portman’s stylist Kate Young. “She was actually going to wear another dress but then I got a call from the woman at Rare Vintage and she was like, 'You should see this dress for Natalie.' So we went and she put it on, and it needed zero alterations, and Natalie was like, 'This was meant to be, wasn't it?' And I said, 'I guess it was.'''
Young also said that Portman selected the dress shortly before the Oscars.
