Actress Elizabeth Banks will make a return appearance on the show 30 Rock after more than a year.
The actress, who can currently be seen playing Effie Trinket in the hit film Hunger Games, will reprise her role as journalist Avery Jessup, the significant other of Alec Baldwin’s Jack Donaghy, during May sweeps. After giving birth to Jack’s child in the fifth season, Avery is now being held in North Korea and unwillingly married to Kim Jong-un.
NBC, which produces the show, also announced Thursday that 30 Rock will go live again beginning April 26.
Some have questioned how the storyline would play out, especially due to the December death of North Korean leader Kim Jong II, which occurred after most of the current sixth season was already filmed.
The current season began in January due to the pregnancy of co-star Tina Fey.
"We realized that, luckily, we hadn't referred to Kim Jong Il by name yet -- just to North Korea in general," producer Robert Carlock said in January. "The fun puzzle is turning around and trying to figure out how to get her out of there and how to continue things."
Since Banks left the show, Mary Steenburgen has played the recurring role of Diana, Avery’s mother.
