Julianna Margulies, the star of CBS’ legal drama The Good Wife, has signed on to star in a Lionsgate’s Stand Up Guy, an action-comedy that already has a cast of A-listers including Oscar-winners Al Pacino and Christopher Walken.
Deadline reported that Margulies will join Pacino, Walken and Alan Arkin, another Oscar-winner. Fisher Stevens, who won an Oscar for co-producing the 2009 documentary The Cove, is slated to direct the film.
Stand Up Guys is described by the studio as an action dramadey featuring two ageing hitmen who decide to enjoy one last wild night before one has to kill a friend. During the night, they confront their past demons as criminals, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Margulies, who starred on NBC’s ER as a nurse, will get another shot to play a nurse in the film who is also a daughter of a lead actor. She will likely get one of the funnier moments in the film, as Deadline reports that she gets to treat Pacino’s character when he overdoses on Viagra. She will film her part during The Good Wife’s break in production over the summer.
Lionsgate will distribute the film, with Lakeshore and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment producing.
Variety also reported that Addison Timlin is in talks to appear in Stand Up Guys. Like Margulies, Timlin most recently did television work, appearing on Californication and ABC’s short-lived Cashmere Mafia.
Noah Haidle wrote the script, which was once titled Old Timers. Lionsgate has not set a release date for the film.
