After seeing herself on the big screen again in Titanic, Winslet is not as pleased with her performance as she was during the 1997 release. After criticizing herself in the role, Winslet told MTV that there are certain parts of the movie that she wishes she could go back and change.
“My American accent could’ve been much better,” Winslet told MTV. “My acting could’ve been a lot better.”
Although Winslet received an Oscar nomination for her role, she believes that her acting could have been improved. While she views her acting in a negative light, she also criticized her appearance.
“I think I look nicer now,” she said. “I prefer myself as a 36 year old. Its really weird ‘cause when you’re 21 you think, ‘Oh God, when I’m 36, oh God, that’s nearly 40 and I’ll look really old and wrinkly by then.’ And actually I quite like the way I look. I feel OK about myself these days.”
According to The New York Daily News, Winslet’s role in Titanic kicked off her career. She was the youngest person to ever earn six Academy Award nominations.
While Winslet didn’t have many positive things to say about her performance at the London premiere on Tuesday, it was a milestone that she was able to attend the premiere at all. Winslet missed the 1997 premiere due to her ex boyfriend, Stephen Tredre’s tragic death.
