The box office success of Hunger Games has prompted Mattel to make a new Barbie doll based on the film’s heroine.
The doll is based on Jennifer Lawrence’s character Katniss Everdeen. Mattel stated that it is specifically for adult collectors.
It will soon be available for purchase on BarbieCollector.com. Images of the doll will soon be released.
Other pending Games merchandise includes nail polish, a cookbook and a workout class.
"Training like a tribute is a cross between combat training and cross-fit," said Brent Bishop, owner of Think Fitness Studios in Toronto, which is launching the Games program April 4. "Competition brings a new element to the basic self-directed workout and guarantees a higher performance level and higher display of human potential."
Mattel previously produced Barbies inspired by the Twlight series. Those were released in February for $30. Mattel has also issued dolls based on the Mad Men series.
Games earned $155 million in its first weekend of release. As a result, Loinsgate Studios (which released the film) saw its share increase four percent Monday.
Fans teamed up with the organization Oxfam America to mark the film’s opening with a campaign to fight hunger. They set up shop at theaters playing the film and their slogan is “Hunger is not a game.”
Oxfam America is an international relief and development organization that fights poverty, hunger, and injustice.
