Broadway has announced its newest Annie to perform this fall.
Eleven year-old Lilla Crawford from Los Angeles is slated to play the next Annie. The curly haired beauty was picked over the 5,000 hopefuls who tried out in person and on video, reports NY Daily News. Crawford admits that when she found out, “my heart just stopped.”
Arielle Tepper Madover said of Broadway’s newest actress, “She has a gorgeous voice, is a terrific actress, wonderful dancer and a sweet girl.”
Crawford isn’t new to scene either. She has performed in over a dozen shows with the Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts and played Debbie in 2011 Bily Elliot, her very first Broadway show, reports state.
“I'm not nervous, but I am definitely so excited to start the whole process. It's going to be so fun," she said of her new job. “I kind of know what's coming but it's going to be exciting and new because I'm going to be part of the original cast. It's definitely going to be exciting. That's one thing I know for sure."
Music for the Broadway hit will be contributed by Charles Strouse with lyrics by Martin Charmin and will be directed by three-time Tony award-winner James Lapine.
Crawford follows in the footsteps of actresses Sarah Jessica Parker, Molly Ringwald and Sutton Foster who also did stints as Annie.
