Donald Glover, who currently stars on NBC’s Community, has been tapped to appear on 30 Rock's second live episode, playing the crucial role of Tracy Jordan.
Tracy Jordan, played by Tracy Morgan, is not being recast, but Glover will be playing a younger version of the kooky star on the show’s second live episode.
Robert Carlock, 30 Rock's executive producer, tells TV Line, “Donald does an excellent Tracy Morgan-slash-Jordan impression.”
Glover’s impression is so good that he provided vocals for “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah,” a song previously featured on 30 Rock.
“Tracy wasn’t available, so Donald came in and [performed the extra material]. I don’t think you can tell. It’s pretty remarkable. All the spoken stuff is Donald doing Tracy,” says Carlock.
Glover’s appearance on the show marks a return to 30 Rock for him, as he was previously a writer for the Emmy-winning show.
According to Zap2It, the program’s second live episode deals with 30 Rock's show within a show, TGS, changing from its live format to shooting prerecorded episodes. Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy are happy with this change since it would be easier to produce, but Kenneth the Page objects because he believes that nothing can beat the magic of live television. This leads to a magical trip down Studio 6H’s past.
The second live episode of 30 Rock airs on April 26.
