Amanda Bynes’ father, Rick Bynes, said in a new interview on Monday that his daughter was not drunk at the time of her DUI arrest on Friday.
In an interview with People magazine, Rick said that “She was not drunk.” He said that he was told that “she blew a zero on the Breathalyzer. She didn't have a single drink that night. My daughter doesn't drink.”
Rick said that the situation was really the police officer’s fault, since he pulled out as Bynes was trying to make a turn at a West Hollywood intersection. He claims that she was arrested because “she was upset and very emotional” when she was pulled over.
He also defended Bynes’ decision to withdraw from acting. "She is a good girl. She just chooses not to work, and because of that, people go after her,” he said. Bynes, who was a former Nickelodeon star, has not appeared in a film since 2010’s Easy A.
The 26-year-old actress was arrested after she damaged a police car. Police held her overnight and charged her with DUI. People magazine contacted the West Hollywood Sheriff's department, but they would not comment on Bynes’ case. She will have to attend a court date, which has not been set.
