Country singer Jake Owen decided to pop the question to his girlfriend Lacey Buchanan on Saturday. To make it even more memorable, he proposed to her on stage, catching Buchanan by surprise.
According to People, Owen was performing at the Citrus Bowl at Vero Beach High, his alma mater. He began singing his hit single “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You” and brought Buchanan on stage. It looked like he was just going to dance with her, but then he got on one knee and popped the question.
TooFab reports that she nodded, even though Owen did not have a ring, as the audience applauded. They kissed and he can be heard asking, “You're probably wondering where your ring is, right?" He then continued to reference “Don’t Think I Can’t Love You,” adding, “I just said I can't buy you a big diamond ring or a big old house on the hill, but I promise you I'll love you forever and ever and ever.”
Country Music Is Love notes that it appeared to be completely spontaneous.
"He seemed to spontaneously decide to bring her out on stage and propose to her,” a concertgoer told People.
He continued the song with Buchanan on stage. The couple met while filming his "Eight Second Ride” music video. She also appeared in the video for “Barefoot Blue Jean Night.”
Owen later tweeted about the moment, writing, “I'm a happy man. Life is complete.”
Thankfully, a fan caught the moment on video, which you can see below:
