Gotye critical of ‘Glee’ version of ‘Somebody That I Used to Know’ - Video

By Alec Campagna,

Earlier this month on the hit show Glee, Darren Criss and guest star Matt Bomer sang a rendition of Gotye’s smash hit, “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Reports are now surfacing that the Australian singer is not a fan of the Glee cover.

According to E! Online, Gotye, whose real name is Wally de Backer, announced, “They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop Glee style, ultra-dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense. Like it's playing to you from a cardboard box.”

He added that Glee made his song “sound dinky and wrong.”

The Huffington Post weighed in on the controversy, saying, “Perhaps Gotye feels he’s become a bit too mainstream for his own good.”

One thing that Gotye surely won’t complain about is his position on the Billboard Hot 100. He currently sits atop due largely to his April 14 Satuday Night Live appearance and the popularity of the Glee rendition.

Gotye also made an appearance at the popular music festival Coachella. Joking about the desert locale, he wondered, “How much water do I need to drink to make sure I can sing on the Coachella stage?”

What do you think? Are you a fan of the Glee version? Or is Gotye right?
