At first, Australian singer Gotye told his local newspaper, the Sunday Mail, that he was less-than-impressed with Glee’s cover of his smash hit “Somebody That I Used To Know,” which was performed by Darren Criss and Matt Bomer.
The singer said the cover sounded "like it's playing to you from a cardboard box” and that it was “dry." He went on to call it "dinky and wrong."
However, at an intimate event on Monday that was attended by former Dancing with the Stars contestant Audrina Patridge, Rumer Willis and American Idol winner Kris Allen, Gotye changed his tune about the cover.
During a private concert for Los Angeles alt-rock station 98.7 that was held at Hollywood's Sayers Club, the Aussie told a crowd of less than 100 that the Glee cover was “clever,” The Hollywood Reporter writes.
He said he was referring to “this xylophone hook in my song -- it's kind of dinky not just in the cover version but the original song."
He then mocked, “that becomes the Glee cover I hated and Darren Criss is an a**hole."
"I thought it was really clever to transpose the song to two guys ... It was a great idea,” he then explained, MTV News reports.
