Even though The Avengers opens May 4, casting for Iron Man 3 is already full steam ahead.
Guy Pearce is in final talks to join Robert Downey, Jr. in 2013’s Iron Man 3 as scientist Aldrich Killian, notes Forbes.com
Fans of the movie franchise will remember Killian as one of the creators of the Extremis virus, which was an attempt to reconstruct the super soldier serum that turned Steve Rogers into Captain America.
Robert Downey, Jr. will reprise his role as the genius industrialist Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, and Gwyneth Paltrow will also be returning as Stark’s lovely assistant, Pepper Potts. In addition, Don Cheadle will return as Lt. Colonel James Rhodes, aka War Machine, and Scarlett Johansson as Natalie Rushman, aka The Black Widow. To level the playing field, Ben Kingsley will play as-yet-undisclosed villain to Pearce’s Killian, according to Variety.com.
Shane Black is set to helm the film, with Jon Favreau, who directed the first film and is now exec producing. Iron Man 3 begins production in May and Disney has set its release date for May 3, 2013.
