Jason Segel said studio president urged him to lose weight for 'The Five-Year Engagement'

Jason Segel revealed on the Late Show with David Letterman that the studio president of his new film with Emily Blunt, The Five-Year Engagement, made him lose weight to play the part.

Rob Meyer, the president of Universal Pictures, was the one who urged Segel that it “had to be conceivable that Emily Blunt would ever choose me to be her husband. Which is fair,” the actor told the late night host.

According to Us Magazine, Segel, who is now dating Michelle Williams, wrote the film. He wrote Blunt’s part with her specifically in mind.

"I wrote all these love scenes with Emily Blunt and she shows up and she just has to do it because we're paying her money and it's her job,” he joked.

With a new relationship with the My Week with Marilyn star underway, a source told Us recently that Segel has matured a lot.

"Jason has been trying to be more of a grown-up lately,” said the source. “He is taking care of himself more, exercising, eating right and dressing better. Basically, not acting like a frat boy anymore."

CNN reports that Segel lost a total of 35 pounds to play the male lead in The Five-Year Engagement.
