Madonna has arguably one of the most successful music careers there is, maintaining her star power since her days as an ‘80s it girl.
But her toughest job to date is raising her kids, mainly 15-year-old Lourdes, because let’s face it – no matter who you are, raising a teenager can be tough.
Recently a picture of the “Material Girl”’s daughter surfaced on various media reports of the teen smoking a cigarette. Madonna is now commenting on it.
"(I) wasn't very happy," she admitted to Rock Center’s Harry Smith, MSNBC reports. "But honestly, I don't think I'm as tough as I should be. I think I need to be maybe tougher. It's hard -- every day is a negotiation. But cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of -- for anyone."
When Smith brought up the singer smoking in a video, she fired back "I don't smoke. That's just an accessory, Harry. There's a difference. (Lourdes) smoked that cigarette before I did that video!"
Smith appeared on the Today show and brought clips of his interview with the pop star of 30 years.
In one, she maintined "It must be hard, because I complain all the time," she said of those around her. "It's pretty challenging. But so far I've survived with sanity and humor intact."
Her children, however, don’t get to see that side of her, Access Hollywood reports.
Madonna said they get to see the side of her "that comes home and says, 'Have you done your homework?' and 'Why are you wearing that?' and 'Why did you say that?' and 'What are you eating that for?'"
Watch the Smith’s full interview on Rock Center with Brian Williams Wednesday at 9pm. For now, check out his Today appearance:
