It has been over eight months since Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced their separation, but Anthony finally filed for divorce from Lopez.
Entertainment Tonight first reported that Anthony filed the papers on Tuesday. Anthony cited “irreconcilable differences” as the cause of the break-up. He is also seeking joint legal and physical custody for their children, 4-year-old twins Emme and Max.
According to The Associated Press, the paperwork does not say when Anthony and Lopez separated and does not give any additional details.
The couple were married for seven years and announced their separation last July. “We have decided to end our marriage. This was a very difficult decision. We have come to amicable conclusion on all matters. It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time,” the two said in a statement at the time.
Anthony and Lopez have worked together professionally since their separation. The two worked on the reality competition series Q! Viva and even promoted it together. The two appeared at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in January, although they focused the discussion on the series, which aired on Fox in the US.
Lopez has already moved on. The American Idol host is currently dating dancer Casper Smart, who appears in her latest music video. According to The Hollywood Gossip, Anthony has started dating Venezuelan model Shannon De Lima.
The marriage was Anthony’s second and Lopez’s third.
