The return of Parks and Recreation last night got fans of the Parks Department of Pawnee, Indiana excited Thursday night. The Amy Poehler-starring show earned the same ratings as its last new episode. However, the American Idol results show still helped Fox claim a victory.
Fox finished first in audience numbers and in ratings, averaging 10.97 million viewers and a 3.0 18-49 rating. Idol started off the night with 14.59 million viewers and a 3.9 18-49 rating. That was a 7 percent decline from the last results show, meaning that it could tie a series low. Touch also fell to 7.34 million viewers and a 2.1 18-49 rating, bringing down Fox’s average on the night.
CBS was a distant second with 8.44 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 rating, probably because it started the night with a repeat of The Big Bang Theory. Rules of Engagement still drew 7.73 million viewers and a 2.2 18-49 rating. The network also aired repeats of Person of Interest and The Mentalist.
ABC found itself in third place, averaging a bit over 8 million viewers and a 2.2 18-49 rating. Missing had 7.08 million viewers, but just a 1.3 18-49 rating. Grey’s Anatomy was up, winning the 9:00 hour with 9.65 million viewers and a 3.2 18-49 rating. Scandal had 7.35 million viewers and a 2.1 key demo rating.
NBC was far back with just 3.23 million viewers and a 1.4 18-49 rating. Community fell to 2.9 million viewers and a 1.3 18-49 rating, while 30 Rock was up with 3.15 million and a 1.5 rating. The Office drew 4.3 million viewers and a 2.2 18-49 rating. Parks and Recreation returned for the first time since early last month, drawing 3.5 million viewers and a 1.8 18-49 rating. That was the same as its last new episode. Awake took another hit, drawing just 2.7 million and a 0.8 key demo rating.
The CW had new episodes of The Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle, averaging 1.65 million viewers and a 0.7 18-49 rating.
