Fox is celebrating 25 years on the air this year with special programming. The network announced plans this week for a special to air next Sunday, April 22. Ryan Seacrest, the host of Fox’s most successful current show, American Idol, will host the special along with guests who have appeared on Fox shows in the past.
Fox announced its choice of host Friday, calling the E! News anchor and Keeping Up with the Kardashians producer “America’s best television host.”
“This is going to be an amazing trip down memory lane filled with plenty of surprises that will showcase our hits, our misses and everything in between,” Mike Darnell, president of Alternative Entertainment, said in the announcement.
According to the network, the list of guests include Ally McBeal’s Calista Flockhart; cast members of Beverly Hills, 90210; Ed O’Neill, Katy Segal and other actors from Married...With Children; The Tick’s Patrick Warburton and Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny of The X-Files.
Deadline reported that Kelsey Grammer will take part. Although Grammer has a recurring voice role on The Simpsons, his only series for Fox is the short-lived Back to You, which was cancelled after one well-rated season. That series was created by Modern Family’s Steve Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, who then decided to take their future hit series to ABC. However, Levitan is working with Fox again on a new pilot for the fall.
The special will air at 8 p.m. and will be preceded by Married...With Children’s pilot episode at 7 p.m., noted Entertainment Weekly.
Other guests appearing on the special include Hugh Laurie from House; Kiefer Sutherland of 24; the cast of That '70s Show and Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy.
