American Idol champion Scotty McCreery has a platinum debut album under his belt, and he isn’t even a high school graduate yet.

This June, the Season 10 Idol champion will get his high school diploma, and the country star explained that his education will go further than that.

"I'll be going to college in the fall," he told People. "We're gonna work classes around [and] head out on the weekends on the road or something. We're gonna work it out."

McCreery is no stranger to making his education work with his new-found music career. He was still in his senior year of high school while he opened up for The Band Perry and Brad Paisley.

Although he has received acceptance letters from four colleges, he has yet to pick “the one.” He explains that is a decision he will make with his family.

"We're gonna figure it out and decide as a family," he said. "I grew up rooting for NC State, and that's where my dad went. But also, there are schools in Nashville that have been really great – and that's Music City so we'll see."

As for his major, he won’t be studying music, as he gets first-hand experience with those he has toured with. "I think marketing would be a cool way of learning how to stay out there and stay current. And study other things!" he said.

The Gossip Girls reports that that McCreery attended the 47th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night and took home the award for Best New Artist.
