Adele and LMFAO were the top winners at Sunday night’s 2012 Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas, which were hosted by Modern Family actors Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen. During the three-hour event, Jordin Sparks paid tribute to Whitney Houston, while some words were said for the Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb, who died on Sunday.
“It’s a very, very sad thing that Robin Gibb has passed,” Taio Cruz told the audience, according to ABC News. “I’m definitely going to be listening to their music for years to come. I think they will live on through their music and so that’s a good thing.”
Adele, who won most of the major awards at the Grammys in February, also won another set of awards, notes Billboard. Her awards include Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Pop Album, for 21, and Top Alternative Song for “Rolling in the Deep.”
LMFAO kicked off the show with a performance of “Party Rock Anthem” and their other hits. “Party Rock Anthem” won the award for Hot 100 Song of the Year and the group also won Top Duo/Group.
Jordin Sparks performed “I Will Always Love You” in tribute to Houston. The American Idol winner starred alongside Houston in Sparkle, which is set to hit theaters in August.
"Thank you so much for showing that much love. Because she deserved it…There will never be another one, ever," Houston’s only daughter, Bobbi Kristina, told the crowd when she accepted the Millennium Award for her mother, who died in February.
Other winners of multiple awards include Coldplay and Lil Wayne, who won four each. Casting Crowns, Jason Aldean and Lady Gaga all won two.
Highlights included Katy Perry bringing her 91-year-old grandmother as her date and performing her new single, “Wide Awake.” Kelly Clarkson also debuted a new single, “Dark Side.”
Miley Cyrus, 19, raised some eyebrows when she wore a short white jacket and little else.
