Gregg Allman, a founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, is set to walk down the aisle for the seventh time.
He announced his engagement to Shannon Williams, 24, Friday.
Allman, 64, revealed that he was initially reluctant to enter into another relationship because of his past issues regarding his love life. He met Williams as he was dealing with health issues, including a liver transplant.
"I am totally in love,” he said upon meeting her Friday, Jan. 13.
He discussed his previous marriages in his new memoir My Cross to Bear, which is in stores now. The book also discusses other topics such as his relationship with Cher, whom he was married to for three years.
“That’s not what she’s becoming,” Allman replied when asked how Williams felt about becoming his seventh wife. “She’s becoming wife No. 1. I don’t have a wife, I haven’t had one for years.”
Allman added that this marriage will be the lasting one because he is truly in love and he was only in love with two of his previous wives.
“They didn’t reciprocate,” he said.
A date for his upcoming marriage has yet to be set.
The Allman Brothers Band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995.
