When Angelina Pivarnick comes to mind, most people think of her brief stints on MTV's Jersey Shore, where she packed her bags twice in the first two seasons following scuffles with her roommates. What most people don't know or chose to forget (listen to Pivarnick's first single “I'm Hot”) is that the reality TV star recorded music after departing Seaside Heights. Her second single “Gotta Go Out,” charted on Billboard's Dance/Clubplay charts in November 2011.
Pivarnick began her first stint with music in November 2010 when she teamed up with producer Andy Stein for the song, “I'm Hot.” The mid-tempo track features Pivarnick rapping about partying while also serving as a diss to all her haters. “Step off b-tch or I'll punch your face,” Pivarnick delivers in one of the song's lines. Stein sports a guido accent as he also sings and raps on the track. “I'm Hot” was panned across the board by several media outlets.
After the dismissal of “I'm Hot,” Pivarnick was thought to be out of the music scene for good. She later returned though in August 2011 with a new song and new producer. The resulting song, “Gotta Go Out,” was a major step up from Pivarnick's previous single. Producer Tony Hanson, who also nabs a guest feature credit on the electronic dance track, trades verses with Pivarnick as they sing about none other than going out to party. Gone is Pivarnick's attempt at rapping and what's left is a simple feel good club song.
Instead of using her real name on “Gotta Go Out,” Pivarnick was listed as Miss*AP. This new song and name garnered success for Pivarnick among the dance community. In November 2011, “Gotta Go Out” reached the lower realms of Billboard's Dance/Club Play Songs for a one week stay at number 37. The Dance/Club Play Songs chart consists of “the week's most popular songs played in dance clubs, compiled from reports from a national sample of club DJs,” Billboard writes on its website. With this accolade, Pivarnick is the first Jersey Shore star to grace any Billboard music chart with a song.
Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino released a rap song in June 2010 that failed to do any chart damage despite the big names he collaborated with. Fatman Scoop, DJ Class, and Disco Fries failed to help Sorrentino craft a hit. Also in July 2010, Paul 'Pauly D' DelVecchio released his first original DJ track, “Beat Dat Beat (It's Time To)” on the Jersey Shore Soundtrack. Even among the company of DJs DeadMau5, David Guetta, and Tiesto on the album, DelVecchio also missed the Billboard charts with his solo song. There's no telling what he might chart in the future though with his current MTV show about his DJ life, The Pauly D Project, which premiered in March.
Pivarnick has not released any new music since “Gotta Go Out.” She was last featured on the VH1 show Couples Therapy earlier this month, dating Food Network star Chris Nirschel. Two years following Pivarnick's chart success, Billboard's Dance/Club Play's number one spot is currently occupied by Gotye's “Somebody That I Used To Know,” featuring Kimbra.
