Actor Jim Parsons, known for playing Sheldon Cooper on the CBS series The Big Bang Theory, announced Wednesday that he is gay.
Parsons, 39, also revealed in an interview with the New York Times that he has been in a committed relationship for 10 years.
The name of his partner has not been revealed but some have speculated that it is art director Todd Spiewak, whom Parsons thanked at the Golden Globes and with whom the actor has been seen at various functions.
However, the interview focuses more on the actor’s lauded stage work in The Normal Heart last year, as well as his upcoming Broadway work in Harvey.
'"The Normal Heart' resonated with him on a few levels: Mr. Parsons is gay and in a 10-year relationship, and working with an ensemble again onstage was like nourishment, he said,” wrote the Times’ Patrick Healy.
Heart focuses on the AIDS epidemic during the 1980s.
Parsons has won two Emmys and a Golden Globe Award for his work on Theory.
He will reprise his Heart role in an upcoming movie version of the play to be directed by Ryan Murphy.
Harvey is set to open June 14 at the Studio 54 theater in New York.
