Bobby Brown is coming to the defense of his daughter with the late Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina.
Amidst rumors that the only daughter of the late “I Will Always Love You” icon has been having a difficult time recovering from the loss of her mother, for example being rumored to have quit the Tyler Perry sitcom she’s signed on for, the New Edition singer is telling MTV News he’s “extremely proud of her.”
"That's my baby girl. She'll forever be my baby girl. She's doing what she's doing, and I'm extremely proud of her," he said on Tuesday. "She's acting and she's working on music and she's doing what she has to do to recover from her loss — our loss."
However, the teenager is said to be somewhat estranged from her father, even trying to pursue changing her name from Brown to Houston.
"She can't change her last name, her name is her name,” Brown told MTV’s Sway about the rumors. “She'll forever be known as Bobbi Kristina Brown. There's no changing that, there's no taking that back,"
Bobbi Kristina, 19, was hospitalized after the death of her mother in February and there have been rumors that she’s dabbled in drugs.
"Any parent that has a teenager in their life, they go through things. They go through phases that they might not be doing exactly what you want them to do in life, but they grow out of it, and my baby girl has grown out of it," Brown said of his daughter.
"I trust and believe that she's smart enough to not go down the same road that maybe I did in the past or her mother did in the past. She's extremely smart."
The New York Daily News reports that Houston was discovered to have died with cocaine in her system after a tumultuous battle with drugs throughout her career.
