Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' hits number one on iTunes

By Diana Cooper,

Listeners across the country can’t get enough of Carly Rae Jepsen’s hit song, “Call Me Maybe.” In fact, it has become so popular that it is now the number one song on iTunes Top 100 Songs chart. Even lead singers and actors are making their own music videos to the single.

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Jepsen, 26, reveals what it’s like to have the song title become a catch phrase: “That blows my mind! I had no idea it would turn into any of this. It's very exciting.”

One of her biggest supporters is pop sensation Justin Bieber, who reached out to her in a direct message on Twitter. “It said, ‘I really believe in you,’” Jepsen told Hollywood Life.

Bieber was such a huge fan that he, along with girlfriend Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale and other friends made one of the first videos lip syncing to the song in February when it was released. Their YouTube video has over 39 million views.

Just one week after Bieber released the video, singer Miley Cyrus made her own version and sang with a friend. Sadly, the video didn’t become as popular as Justin’s and only reached over one million views.

Two months later, “Call Me Maybe” was still a hit. During Coachella weekend in April, Katy Perry turned her party with friends into a set for her own version of the song. In the same month, actor James Franco, filmed him and a friend singing “Call Me Maybe” in a car ride.

Jepsen is managed by Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, and is signed to Schoolboy Records. She has already made a name for herself in Canada, being the third place winner on the fifth season of Canadian Idol.

Jepsen recently stole the stage at Wango Tango on May 12 with Bieber as a surprise guest. Her next big gig will be touring with Justin on his upcoming "Believe" tour, where she will be the opening act.

Jepsen may sing about giving a guy her number, but she admits to Seventeen magazine, “I've never actually asked a guy for his number.” Looks like she won’t have to worry about that anymore.
