Sex and the City actress Cynthia Nixon married her education activist fiancée of three years, Sunday, May 27.
According to People, the couple, who met in January 2004 at an education fund-raiser, waited to marry until same-sex marriage was legalized in the state of New York. The actress’ rep confirms, “On May 27, 2012, Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend, Christine Marinoni, were legally married in the state of New York.” Nixon and new wife Christine Marinoni have one child together, 1-year-old Max Ellington Nixon-Marinoni.
Marinoni and Nixon have been together for nearly eight years. Prior to that Nixon was in a long term relationship with photographer Danny Mozes, They have two children together
The actress caused a firestorm back in January when she called being gay a choice. At the time she said, ““I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better. And they tried to get me to change it, because they said it implies that homosexuality can be a choice. And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me."
Nixon, who is famous for her role as Miranda Hobbes in the HBO series, Sex and the City, has made appearances in The Big C and can be seen in World Without End.
