James Badge Dale is the latest actor to join the cast of Marvel’s Iron Man 3. The character actor is set to play another villain named Eric Savin.
Variety reported the casting news on Wednesday. In the comics, his character is a lieutenant corporal in charge of the Army’s Project: Ultra. He steps on a land mine, though, and ends up resurrected as the cyborg named Coldblood.
However, it is still not known if the character will actually become Coldblood in the film. According to Cinemablend, we already know that the film will follow the Extremis storyline, where nanobots are used to spread a virus. Prometheus actor Guy Pearce is already close to joining the film as doctor Aldrich Killian, the man who invented the Extremis serum. Sir Ben Kingsley has also joined the cast as another villain who spreads the nanobots. Rebecca Hall is also joining the cast after Jessica Chastain dropped out. Robert Downey Jr. will, of course, be returning to play the title character.
Dale is best known for his roles on The Pacific and in The Departed and his more recent parts have earned acclaim. He appeared in The Grey with Liam Neeson and his next film is Robert Zemeckis’ Flight. His other current projects include Brad Pitt’s World War Z and The Lone Ranger for Disney.
Iron Man 3 will be directed by Shane Black and production is set to start in North Carolina this month. Disney will co-produce the film in China, where production will start in the summer. The film is already set for a May 3, 2013 release.
