New mom Jessica Simpson can now add maternity wear designer to her already extensive resume.
It was announced Monday morning that Simpson would be creating a maternity line named Jessica Simpson Maternity, according to People magazine. Simpson will partner with Destination Maternity on the line that will be available this fall. The singer turned designer released a statement announcing the new venture.
“I’m so excited to partner with Destination Maternity to design a collection of fashionable styles that make you look and feel great,” Simpson said in the release, People reports. “You want to wear clothes that are flattering to your baby bump; you want to show your bump off.”
WWD reports that the collaboration has been a long time in the making. Destination Maternity had the idea to partner with Simpson from the time it was announced that she was pregnant. The collection, that has a “vintage Seventies feel,” will include denim, maxi dresses, and jersey dresses – all of which were staples of Simpson’s own maternity wardrobe.
Simpson, who reached the height of her fame when she starred in the MTV reality series Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica with ex-husband Nick Lachey, has proven herself to be quite savvy in the world of fashion. NBC New York reports that her fashion empire came close to $1 billion in sales last year. Now, with the sure to be lucrative expansion of her business into maternity wear, Simpson may find herself trading the pages of tabloids for the cover of Forbes.
